A young assertive, dynamic, goal orientated, focused and dedicated educator who is in tune with current learners ‘Ama2k’ in a township school, Sivuyisiwe Jwambi takes pride in teaching her learners at David Mama High School in Mdantsane.

Jwambi who is a qualified Physical Science and Mathematical Literacy educator recently achieved a whooping 94,1% pass rate in the 2023 NSC examinations for Mathematical Literacy, despite also being a Jenn Tutor for intervention programmes in the Buffalo City District.

“Because of my enthusiasm and single-mindedness I’ve assisted schools and learners that I have had access to through these programmes to increase their contextual understanding of learning areas” said Jwambi.

Her efforts in these intervention programmes Jwambi recently earned her an award of commendation from her district.

“This on its own propels me to become better in my field of specialisation and the results of my learners encourage me to do more for them,” said an enthusiastic Jwambi.

Jwambi believes that ‘Ama2K’ need teachers who believe in their dreams and aspirations. She added that learners just want to be validated, heard and be seen, then they will ‘amaze you’ as their teacher.

“At David Mama I introduced sessions of leadership skills through a Peer Supporting Programme (Prefects) in 2023. Here learners were taken to a leadership training and came back with knowledge and skill that they implement effectively in leading their peers at school.

Due to such, a policy document was drafted on the programme for the school and forms part of the school policy.”

The programme according to Jwambi is still in place and assists the school on learner governance and control when it comes to absenteeism, late coming, non-adherence to wearing of school uniform which has been reduced drastically.

“Learners who are part of this leadership programme have shown so much improvement in their marks and behaviour in school and community, it’s such a ‘flex,’” added Jwambi.

For this teacher it has been her vision to see leaders being shaped from grade 8 so that by the time they reach grade 12 they are assertive and strong and open minded leaders.

She added that, her passion for helping and teaching those who have given up on themselves, looking at themselves and thinking that they would never be matriculants is what motivates her to do her best every day.

“I have been approached by numerous former grade 12 candidates to assist them in passing their matric and I have opened up that opportunity for them and offering classes to this effect.

I plan on broadening this service to other areas besides the one that I’m currently servicing so that all those that I am in contact with can get an opportunity of passing their matric,” said Jwambi.

Jwambi hopes that in no time academics in her school and the whole Province will be strengthened and learners will be more confident.

“Focusing not only on the quantity in terms of the results, but the quality is of utmost importance.

I always make sure that I focus on the quality of outcomes to add value to the final results as the learners navigate their future at tertiary level.”.
