Two Educators, one non-teaching staff member and five parents were elected as agents of change during the ongoing 2024 Provincial School Governing Body election process at Ncemera Primary School, Peelton recently.

The primary objectives of these elections according to the Director for School Administration, Melikhaya Mancoko are to give parents and guardians the opportunity to have direct access and influence on the direction and governance of the school.

The day started with a briefing meeting with all stakeholders involved and there after the team visited other schools in the area.  This was done to check, monitor and witness the election process.

We are now confident enough to report that the process in the schools that we visited today was conducted free and fair.

Parents came in numbers and some sent their apologies in writing and clearly shows that they are taking this process very serious, said ECDoE, School Management and Governance Coordinator, Yoliswa Matam.

The local schools Coordinator who was heading the process said that she was a bit nervous when she realised that a team from the Education Headquarters was coming to visit on the day.

“It was nerve wrecking to have such a huge responsibility but together with my team we managed to uphold the electoral values.

“The elections went pretty well and we are proud to have carried out the task successfully,” said a proud Majali Primary School Principal, Monica Mletshe Kobo who was coordinating the process for schools in Peelton.

Also commenting on the events of the day was the newly elected SGB member Lingekile Yelani saying that ‘it is with pleasure to be one of the newly elected SGB members.

“We are going to hit the ground running and make sure that we are always available when called for duty.

We will also make sure that we instill respect amongst learners, teachers and parents because our schools depend on all of us,” concluded Yelani.
