The Eastern Cape Department of Education teamed up with the EC Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to officially open a R32 million state of the art Primary School in Burgersdorp, Joe Gqabi Education District recently.
Both MECs of these Departments took time out to join the community of Burgersdorp to celebrate the newly constructed Mpumelelo Mfundisi Primary school.
The official opening of this school follows a successful completion building of schools by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure as an implementation agent for the Department of Education.
"Today we are not only here for the official opening of the school but we are here to celebrate the joint campaign between the ECDoE and DPWI on promoting conducive environment for teaching and learning as well as to motivate learners to respect and appreciate education," said Gade,who is the MEC for Education in the Province.
MEC for DPWI Ntombovuyo Nkopane said the implementation of this dynamic project is to produce the quality of education in the area.
"We applaud the education department for entrusting us with such an important project and we hope that we have met the Department’s expectations," added Nkopane.
Dr Bedeshana Mceleni who is the ECDoE Joe Gqabi District Director expressed his gratitude and said that indeed the day is 'a blessing'.
"This is the state-of-the-art school that our community has been longing for, and it will definitely change our learners' schooling days for the better and restore their dignity.
We are proud of the quality of the education that will be received by the ECD learners learning under a safe environment," added Mceleni.
"Mpumelelo Primary School is going to rise from the ashes and will soar high like a phoenix because today we have been built a conducive and beautiful teaching and learning facility," said a visibly excited Mlungiselelo Gungqwa who is the principal of the school.
He concluded by thanking both Departments for a job well done.
