KOUGA WIND FARM TRUST AND EASTERN CAPE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION PARTNER TO BUILD A PRIMARY SCHOOL The Kouga Wind Farm Trust, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Department of Education and Kouga Municipality, has launched a groundbreaking project to construct a primary school in Humansdorp. This initiative, which commenced in 2023, seeks to bridge the socio-economic divide in the community by delivering high-quality education. On 3 June 2025, the Kouga Wind Farm Trust signed a memorandum of understanding with the Eastern Cape Department of Education and Kouga Municipality to bring this vision to life. The project was officially unveiled on 12 September 2025, in Humansdorp, marking a significant milestone in the partnership. MEC Fundile Gade expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We are welcoming this gesture, and we look forward to working together until the last day of this project. We will ensure that we provide all the necessary aspects to make the institution versatile and a model that we agreed upon." He also extended an invitation to other wind farms to join hands with the department, emphasizing the potential for collaborative community-driven initiatives. The ward councillor Nozuko Ntshotha expressed her excitement that the children in the community will get quality education from a young age as well as employment opportunities that the community will benefit from. The construction of the primary school is expected to have a profound impact on the community, providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students. This project aligns with the department's goal of improving education outcomes and promoting socio-economic development. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2025, with provisions made for mobile classes in case of delays for the January 2026 intake. This forward-thinking approach ensures that learners can continue their education without disruption. The partnership between Kouga Wind Farm Trust, the Eastern Cape Department of Education and Kouga Municipality is a shining example of the power of collaboration and community-driven initiatives. As the project progresses, it is anticipated to make a lasting impact on the lives of learners and the broader community. |
