Education Department condemns the senseless killing of a teacher
The Eastern Cape Department of Education is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of a dedicated teacher at Maxaka Junior Secondary School in Ngqeleni, Libode, who was senselessly shot and killed on her way to work on Monday, 20th January 2025.
The incident occurred at around 07:45 in the morning when she was dropping off another teacher at Dingilizwe Senior Primary School.
Our hearts go out to her family, colleagues, and students who are grieving this unbearable loss.
The Department commended the bravery and quick thinking of the teacher from Dingilizwe Senior Primary School, who witnessed the incident and sought help. The Department made a swift response of dispatching psychologists to provide comfort and support to the affected teachers and learners.
Furthermore, the Department would also like to urge authorities to thoroughly investigate this heinous crime and ensure that justice is served. May Lulama Groom's memory be a blessing to all who knew her and may her dedication to education inspire future generations.
