ECDoE Prioritizes Women's Health and Wellness in Women's Month Event. On 28 August 2025, the Eastern Cape Department of Education's Youth and Special Programmes Directorate hosted a vibrant employees' health and wellness event in Gqeberha, commemorating Women's Month. The event brought together women from all five branches and the twelve districts of the department, providing a platform for relaxation, empowerment, and connection. The Head of Department, Sharon Maasdorp in her capacity as the first woman of the department, expressed her excitement to participate in the event, stating, "I'm very excited to participate in women empowerment. All the women of the department are gathered here today to unwind." Her presence and words set the tone for a day of inspiration and rejuvenation. Director for Youth and Special Programmes Directorate, Nyameka Mgijima, emphasized the importance of the event, saying, "We have gathered all women employees here to wrap up women's month. This exercise relaxes the mind and encourages women to talk and overcome personal challenges that hinder them from performing to their full potential. They get an opportunity to be reminded that there are wellness services at their disposal." The event provided a safe space for women to share their experiences, build relationships, and support one another. The Programme Director, Lusanda Mbane, a familiar face on TV screens and Umhlobo Wenene, delivered a powerful message, highlighting the significance of women learning from each other and supporting one another through life's challenges. She encouraged attendees to "pull each other up when there is a fall," encouraging a sense of solidarity and empowerment. The event featured various partners, including the South African Revenue Service, Government Pension Fund, insurance companies, and health practitioners, who provided valuable information and resources to departmental officials. This collaborative approach underscored the department's commitment to the well-being and development of its employees. The Eastern Cape Department of Education's Women's Month celebration served as a powerful reminder of the importance of women's empowerment, support, and solidarity.
