ECDOE LEADERSHIP GATHERS FOR A THREE-DAY STRATEGIC RETREAT TO STRENGTHEN EDUCATION DELIVERY

The top management of the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) gathered for a three-day strategic retreat aimed at reflecting on performance, enhancing accountability, and sharpening strategies to improve the quality of education across the province.

Held over three days, the retreat brought together the Head of Department, Deputy Directors-General, Chief Directors, and senior managers to engage on key priorities that shape the Department’s performance and service delivery.

Among the critical issues discussed were the Audit Strategy, Vote 6 Budget Overview, analysis of Term 3 Grade 12 results, and the JENN (Just Enough Now and Next) support programme for Grade 12 learners.

Speaking during the opening session, the Head of Department emphasised the importance of such strategic sessions in ensuring that the Department remains focused and coordinated in delivering on its mandate.

“This retreat provides us with an opportunity to pause, reflect and find innovative ways to improve our systems and outcomes. We must emerge from here united by one goal — improving learner performance and strengthening education in the Eastern Cape,” said the HoD.

The Audit Strategy discussion highlighted the Department’s continued commitment to clean governance and accountability. With the recent unqualified audit outcome, management explored mechanisms to sustain this achievement and further tighten internal control systems.

The Vote 6 Budget Overview offered an in-depth look at the Department’s financial standing, ensuring that available resources are directed toward priorities that have the greatest impact on learning and teaching.

A comprehensive review of the Term 3 Grade 12 results provided insights into learner performance trends across districts, helping to identify areas requiring urgent attention as the Class of 2025 approaches the final examinations.

The JENN initiative, which provides focused academic support to Grade 12 learners, also came under the spotlight. Discussions centred on strengthening this programme to ensure every learner receives the necessary support to excel in the upcoming NSC examinations.

In closing, the HoD expressed appreciation to all members of the Top Management Team for their continued dedication and teamwork.

“Our discussions over these three days must translate into concrete actions that make a difference in schools. The responsibility we carry is immense, but through collaboration and innovation, we can continue to move the Department forward,” the HoD said.

The retreat concluded on a high note, with a renewed sense of purpose and unity among the Department’s leadership, reaffirming ECDoE’s commitment to accountability, improved learner outcomes, and quality education for all learners in the Eastern Cape.
