ECDoE holds World 'Read Aloud' Day Celebrations

The Eastern Cape Department of Education in partnership with Funda Nande Foundation, Oxford South Africa held their first 2022 Read Aloud Celebration Day at the Nomathemba Primary School in Stutterhem, Amathole West District.

The purpose of the day was to promote literacy skills and increase each learner's language proficience through the reading activities, while encouraging everyone to participate in the scheduled reading activities activities.

Elaborating more on the purpose of the event was Amathole West District Director, Noncedo Futshane who said, "The purpose of the day was to promote effective reading with understanding in the province, therefore we encourage parents to read to their children every day and also encouraging schools to motivate learners to read daily."

"Solid reading foundation begins at home" said the Eastern Cape Department of Education Head of Department, Dr. Naledi Mbude during the launch of the Read Aloud project.

Dr. Mbude said, "The World Reading Aloud Day initiative is aligned with the provincial reading plan to encourage and give support to the little kids to read with meaning and with understanding."

'We are educators because of you and you are the learners for us, so this simply means we have to work together towards achieve our goals,' said Nomathemba Primary School Principal, Vuyani Anton, as he was giving vote of thanks during the celebrations.
