ECDoE Celebrates Graduation of School Administrators In pursuit of professionalising the public service and strengthening administrative capacity within the education sector, the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) has embarked on an ambitious skills development initiative aimed at empowering its workforce. As part of this commitment, 600 school administrators were enrolled in the National Higher Certificate in Accountancy offered by Regent Business School. The programme was designed to equip administrative personnel with critical financial management skills, thereby enhancing efficiency and accountability in schools across the province. Implemented in two phases, the programme reached a key milestone on 1 October 2025, when the first cohort of 375 administrators proudly graduated at a ceremony held at Mosaiek Teatro in Fairland, Randburg (Gauteng). The second cohort is scheduled to graduate in March 2026. The National Higher Certificate in Accountancy is an NQF Level 5 qualification that also serves as a pathway to an NQF Level 6 qualification in Cost and Management Accounting and Financial Management, which will be rolled out in the next academic year. The programme specifically targeted school administrative clerks with a Grade 12 qualification, stationed in various schools and districts across the Eastern Cape. Representing the Department at the graduation ceremony were Lukhanyo Sidiya, Acting Chief Director: Human Resource Management &Development, Ntandazo Matika, Acting Director: Human Resource Development, and Luvuyo Mgijima, Deputy Director: Human Resource Development, who joined Regent Business School officials in awarding the qualifications to graduates. The ECDoE’s Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D) team hailed this achievement as a significant return on investment — contributing to improved performance management, enhanced public administration, and ultimately, the goal of achieving clean audits. This milestone demonstrates the Department’s ongoing commitment to skills development, improved service delivery, and the professionalisation of the public service. Together, we continue to make education fashionable by promoting lifelong learning and supporting our employees to grow their careers and capabilities. |
