At over 90% progress registered, MEC Gade is confident that the hostel building project will be concluded before the end of 2024 as envisioned. Accompanied by Amahlahleni Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Ntombizanele Koni, the MEC had an engagement with the workers on site. Among the 500 workers on site was Asiphe Somni from the Gqumkhwebe Village who expressed gratitude for the job. “Work is very scarce and to get such an opportunity is a blessing and it means that i can now provide for my family” said Somni.

Somni added that the project has brought business opportunities to the villagers and the much-needed hostel facilities for learners in Cacadu brought by the project.

MEC Gade said that he was especially delighted about the opportunities that the project has afforded to surrounding communities. “Seeing young people getting involved and working in this project gives us hope that our agenda as government to create job opportunities and developing skills for our people is slowly being realised.

“We are confident that the project will be completed soon. There is so much ground that has been covered already and the applicable policies, laws; regulations and ethical standards have been followed” concluded Gade.
