EC EDUCATION MEC INSPECTS PROGRESS AT R127 MILLION HECTOR PETERSEN PROJECT

The Eastern Cape Education MEC, Fundile Gade, recently conducted an oversight visit to the R127,481,814.63 million Hector Petersen High School project in Zwelitsha, Buffalo City Metro Education District. The visit aimed to ensure the revised construction project was on track and adhered to plans, timelines, and budget allocations.

Hector Petersen High Schools Deputy Principal Nomabandla Gwavu, welcomed MEC Gade's visit, saying, "We are optimistic about the project's progress. The visit shows us that our concerns are being heard and addressed. We are eagerly awaiting the projects completion and the improved facilities it will bring to our learners."

According to MEC Gade the oversight visit demonstrates the department's commitment to quality education infrastructure and accountability, ultimately benefiting learners and the community. MEC Gade said, "We are ensuring this project delivers expected results, provides value for money and adheres to policies and regulations." He added, "Notably the project has created much-needed jobs for the local community, with many residents employed on-site."

The Coega Development Corporation Program Director, Thembeka Poswa, provided a briefing on the projects scope and cost, outlining key aspects of the implementation plan. Poswa said, "Despite experiencing delays, the project is approximately 80% complete and is expected to finish ahead of schedule. We have made significant progress and are working diligently to finish the remaining tasks. By prioritizing quality infrastructure and local employment, we are making a tangible impact in Zwelitsha."

The Hector Petersen High School community can now eagerly anticipate the official opening of their state-of-the-art school, made possible by the R127 million project. As Nikiwe Mpofu, Chairperson of the School Governing Body, aptly put it, "We cannot wait for the official opening of this state-of-the-art school, which will be a game-changer for our learners. With its completion, the school will finally have the infrastructure it deserves, bringing hope and opportunities to the entire community."
