The Eastern Cape Department of Education recently hosted a thrilling Provincial Moot Court competition, bringing together 20 talented learners from across the Province. This prestigious event provided a platform for learners to showcase their skills in research, critical thinking and public speaking skills while promoting a deeper understanding of the Constitution and justice system.

The following eight exceptional learners have been selected to represent the Eastern Cape at the national level in Pretoria:

  • Kholosa Waka and Zukhanye Ntlabati from National Victoria Girls High (Sarah Baartman Education District)

According to the Chief Director for Learner Development and Social Support Services, Lulamani Zenzile the competition is an excellent initiative that provides valuable opportunities for learners to engage with the justice system and develop essential skills that benefit them in their future careers. “We believe that this competition will not only enhance their critical thinking and public speaking skills but also inspire them to pursue careers in law and related fields”, added Zenzile.

Dr. Tapiwa Shumba, a Faculty of Law lecturer at Nelson Mandela University and at the University of Fort Hare offered words of encouragement to the learners. "Approach this competition with confidence and passion and use this opportunity to showcase your skills, learn from one another, and grow as individuals. I have no doubt that you will excel and make us all proud”, expressed Shumba.
