The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) yesterday hosted an event in honor of its retirees at the Mandla Makupula Education Leadership Institute in East London, Buffalo City Education District.
The ceremony was a way in which the Departments senior management got an opportunity to express their gratitude to the retirees for their dedication and service to the education sector.
The ECDoE Head of Department, Sharon Maasdorp acknowledged the significant contribution made by the retirees wishing them an amazing retirement and encouraging them to enjoy the new adventure filled with happiness and contentment. "Your efforts have helped shape the department for the future and we will forever be grateful to you for your dedication”, said Maasdorp.
Corporate Services Acting Deputy Director General, Qaphela Luthuli expressed his deepest gratitude to the retirees for spending so many years of their lives making sure that learners have a chance at a better future. “Your hard work and commitment to providing quality education to our learners have not gone unnoticed. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside such passionate and driven people” said Luthuli.
Genevieve Koopman, Chief Director for Institutional Operations Management Chief Director thanked the entire EC Education team for this wonderful honor and said that she was ‘truly humbled’ to be recognized for her service to the education sector. “I really appreciate what is happening today and most importantly my colleagues from Curriculum Management who supported me throughout my career. Your friendship, guidance, and encouragement meant and still means the world to me,” said Koopman.
Risk Management Chief Director, Charles Addae who is also retiring said that he was grateful for the recognition and appreciation by the senior management of the Department. “It is not everyday you get to be told how grateful people are about your work while you are still alive. It really warms my hearts to know that our contributions to the education sector have not gone unnoticed,” added Addae.
The retirees were presented with certificates and gifts in recognition of their hard work, service and contributions.
