The Eastern Cape Department of Education has intensified its efforts to enhance the capacity of educators and officials through various training and development initiatives.

Recently, the Department hosted the first cohort of educators at the Osner Hotel in East London for the General Education Training program. The training aimed to strengthen Primary Care Management in the education sector, enabling educators to provide optimal support for learner well-being and academic success.

Chief Education Specialists (CES's) from all districts in the Eastern Cape participated in the training, which fostered collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and prioritisation of learner well-being and education.

On the 13th of February 2025, the Curriculum Management team hosted the second group of Subject Advisors and Chief Education Specialists (CES's) at the same venue, further demonstrating the Department's commitment to educator development.

Outlining the purpose of the Indaba, Acting Chief Director of Curriculum, Chulekazi Xundu-Bula had this to say, "We are gathered as education subject advisory services of Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase from head office, and all districts for 3 days to reflect on the previous year 2024, check what has worked and what did not work, and discuss the plan for year 2025. Early Childhood Development is crucial for our children to have a firm foundation, ensuring that our learner attainment in higher grades improves."

A key focus area of the Indaba was prioritising the needs of the most vulnerable children, ensuring equitable access to quality education. The event brought together experts, educators, and officials to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions.

The Department's commitment to capacity building and collaboration is evident in its efforts to provide ongoing support and development opportunities for educators. By investing in the growth and development of its educators, the Department aims to create a positive impact on learner outcomes and improve the overall quality of education in the province.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education remains dedicated to its mission of providing quality education to all learners, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through initiatives like the General Education Training program and the Early Childhood Development Indaba, the Department is taking proactive steps to address the unique challenges faced by educators and learners in the province.

As the Department continues to strive for excellence in education, the future of education in the Eastern Cape is bright. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and learner centered approaches, the province is poised to make significant strides in education, ultimately empowering learners to succeed and thrive.

The Department's efforts to enhance educator capacity and promote collaboration among stakeholders are a testament to its commitment to providing quality education to all learners. As the province continues to navigate the complexities of the education sector, one thing is clear: the Eastern Cape Department of Education is dedicated to creating a brighter future for all learners.
