Eastern Cape's Anti-Violence in schools launch campaign

The Eastern Cape Department of Education Head of Department, Dr Naledi Mbude together with the MEC for Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) Fundile Gade attended the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) Eastern Cape's Anti-Violence in schools campaign launch held at Bhisho High School in Bhisho under the theme, "I am a school fan."

The event comes as the 9th National Congress to roll out a campaign towards ensuring safety of learners and teachers in schools.

The launch started by an opening devotion from the SADTU Provencial Chairperson, Thabile Kunene.  He said SADTU adopted a campaign to mobilize all stakeholders which include learners, parents, community members, the faith based organisation, and the private sector to play a decisive role in ensuring safety and stability. Not only for learners but also to accommodate educators at the work- place in the country."

Message for support from ECDoE was delivered by the Head of Department, Dr Naledi Mbude who said "The school is representing a place of safety, therefore we are here to support SADTU on this Fan campaign launch and I am proud to stand here for you and can gladly say I am also a fan.

Speaking on behalf of South African Police Service (SAPS) on the issue of safety in the schools was Captain Daniso highlighting the programme that they have in their department on school safety.

He said, "We are very honoured to have been invited to attend a programme of this caliber as it is closely with what SAPS have been preaching about school safety in the area.  Therefore, we are here to fully accept the programme and will do our best to make it an access."
