Eastern Cape Department of Education Inducts newly appointed District Education Forums across the Province

The Department of Education's District Education Forum (DEF) has emerged as a vital platform for stakeholders to converge, share ideas, and address pressing educational concerns. This innovative initiative aims to strengthen collaboration, improve resource allocation, and enhance educational outcomes at the district level.

In the month of September, the Stakeholder Management Directorate conducted an induction programme across the province, for the newly elected DEFs. This was a programme designed to capacitate the forums and provide them with clear guidelines in terms of their roles and responsibilities.

Chief Director for Communications and Stakeholder Management, Zama Mnqanqeni, emphasizes the need for a transformative education system that promotes equality for all. At the heart of the District Education Forum (DEF) is the transformation of education, aiming to drive meaningful change and improvement in the sector. This means addressing disparities and ensuring equal access to quality education for everyone. Mnqanqeni stressed that the DEF's transformation efforts must prioritize the well-being and development of the African child, highlighting the critical roles and responsibilities of the DEF in shaping the future of education.

In essence, part of the DEF’s responsibilities seeks to create a more inclusive and equitable education system, which is crucial for building a better future. By prioritizing the well-being and development of African children, the DEF can help bridge the gap in education and provide opportunities for all to succeed.

The over arching message by the MEC Fundile was that "education is a societal matter," highlighting the importance of collective effort in achieving the Department's objectives. He welcomed and appreciated the valuable contributions of the District Education Forum (DEF) in advising the District Director and addressing pressing educational issues. By working together, the Department can effectively tackle challenges and create a better learning environment.

Following a successful induction, the DEFs are poised to begin their mandate, tackling key educational issues with momentum.
