Eastern Cape Department of Education hosted the Provincial Moot Court Competition

The Eastern Cape Department of Education's School Health, Safety, and Learner Enrichment Directorate hosted a highly successful provincial schools moot court competition at Rhodes University in Grahamstown on September 7, 2024. This exciting event highlighted the exceptional legal skills of learners from all over the province, particularly in cultivating critical thinking and advocacy skills.

Through this innovative simulated court proceeding, learners assumed the roles of lawyers, engaging in a hypothetical legal case to hone their critical thinking, research, and advocacy skills. This engaging approach to learning provided a unique opportunity for learners to interact with the law in a practical and immersive environment.

One of the objectives of this competition was, to identify the top six learners who will represent the Eastern Cape at the national level in Pretoria. Following a rigorous and competitive process, four exceptional schools emerged as provincial champions, earning their place at the national level.

The Department of Education extends its warmest congratulations to all participating schools and extends special recognition to the four schools advancing to the national level. Expressing her pride and heartfelt admiration, the Director for School Health, Safety and Learner Enrichment, Phumla Gxulwe said,” We are immensely proud of your accomplishments and wish you continued success in the competition, and your dedication and hard work exemplify the excellence of our province's education system."

The provincial moot court competition serves as a testament to the Department's unwavering commitment to empowering learners with the skills and knowledge necessary for success. By providing innovative learning experiences like this, the department aims to inspire a love of learning, foster a passion for the law, and cultivate the next generation of leaders.
