Eatern Cape 2024 trial examinations have started in earnest

Trial examinations in the Eastern Cape province are in full swing since August 19th , 2024, as Grade 12 learners from all 12 districts have reportedly started writing them.

This was made possible by the Assessment and Examination Chief Directorate which established teams to fully prepare, manage the 2024 Trial Examinations across the province. The teams assisted in assessing and ensuring the preparedness of schools, district offices, and the readiness of the head office to administer Trial and final examinations at the end of the year.

The 2024 Trial Examinations commenced on 19 August 2024 with 103,408 registered candidates from 963 examination centres in the province. Candidates are being tested on 137 different subjects, with 133 question papers printed to facilitate these examinations.

The department has implemented several measures to ensure the smooth and efficient administration of the 2024 final examinations. To address and quality-assure all registration-related issues, the first and second preliminary schedules have been verified.

Furthermore, provincial monitors are actively supporting district monitoring teams to achieve the Department of Basic Education's (DBE) 70% threshold. Similarly, audits to certify Independent Examination Centres readiness have been conducted too.

The department has also conducted ongoing audits of storage and nodal points to safeguard question papers and candidates' scripts. So far, no centre manager has reported any irregularities incident from all the centres. The Trial examinations are scheduled to conclude on September 16th, 2024.
