Buffalo City Metro leads in Eastern Cape 2021 Matric Results

The Eastern Cape has done it again, it is the second highest improved province with 4,9% from last year with the overall pass rate of 73% for the class of 2021, from 68.1% for the class of 2020.

This was announced by the Department of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega on Thursday the 20th January 2022 during the announcement of 2021 Matric Results.

A Total Number of candidates, who registered for the 2021 NSC exams was 897 163 candidates and increase of 23.6% from 2020, compromising 733 197 full time candidates, an increase of 20.2% from 2020 nationally.

MEC of Education Mr Fundile Gade said Buffalo City Metro is the leading District in the Eastern Cape with an improvement of 5,4% from 73,6 in 2020 to 79% in 2021.

In 2021 there is a strong correlation between top performance and the quality of Bachelor passes in the following top 5 performing districts with BCM leading with a pass rate of 42,9% ,the first of its kind in the provincial NSC results, followed by Nelson Mandela bay at 39,2%.

-Nelson Mandela Bay at 78,2% an improvement of 2,7% from 75,5% in 2020.

- Amathole West at 74,6 % an improvement from 63,2% in 2020 with highest improvement of 11,4%.

-Alfred Ndzo West at 73,7% an improvement of 6,2% from 67,3 in 2020.

- Joe Gqabi at 7,7% followed by Chris Hani East at 7,6 %.

MEC fundile Gade applauded the teachers and learners for making this possible under difficult circumstances, where the country was faced with Covid 19, and he further stated that, the province didn’t have a district that had performed below 65%.
