MINISTER OF BASIC EDUCATION TO EMBARK ON BACK TO-SCHOOL VISIT IN THE EASTERN CAPE

The Minister of Basic Education, Ms. Siviwe Gwarube, will undertake a two-day Back to-School visit to the Eastern Cape Province to engage with learners, educators, and stakeholders.

The visit aims to mark key milestones in the 2025 academic year and highlight significant investments in education infrastructure.

The Provincial Visit will unfold as follows:

Day 1: Today, Tuesday, 14 January 2025
Event: Minister Gwarube will join the provincial release of the 2024 National Senior Certificate results.
Venue: East London International Convention Centre (EL ICC).
Time: 10:00 AM.

Day 2: Wednesday 15 January 2025

Event 1: The Minister will visit Kwezilesizwe Primary School in the Amathole District to welcome Grade R and Grade 1 learners for their first day of school.
Venue: Kwezilesizwe Primary School, Amathole District
Time: 07:00 – 09:00 AM.
Event 2: The Minister will visit the historic Healdtown Secondary School, alma mater to luminaries such as Nelson Mandela and Robert Sobukwe.
Activities: Address the 2025 matric class and inspect the R100 million school upgrade project.
Time: 10:30 AM onwards.
