ECDoE to host provincial host provincial natural science olympiads and science olympiads and astro quiz competition.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education will be hosting a Provincial Natural Sciences Olympiads and Astro Quiz Competition, on Thursday, 15 August 2024, at Hotel Osner in East London, from 08:30am.

The objective of this competition is to contribute to the improvement of awareness, interest,understanding insight into basic astronomy. This seeks to build appreciation of and pride in South Africa's history of science activity and achievements amongst others.  Furthermore, the Natural Sciences and Technology Olympiads will help identify and nurture talent in the subject and to increase the number of learners who opt for STEM subject in the FET Band.

Since the department’s first participation in the Astro Quiz Competition in 2017, the number of learners participating has increased, with some of the learners reaching the National level from 2018 to date.
